Rakaia Gorge bridges

looking upstream with the Hutt Range in the distance, on the other side of which are the well-known ski-fields

This was one of the entries considered for but not included in the book Bridges of New Zealand.  The two bridges were built in the narrowest spot on the river, the single lane iron bridge on the northern channel in 1883.  The next year a wooden bridge was built over the southern channel and replaced in 1945 with a two-lane concrete bridge.  In the view looking upstream a jetboat can be seen in the distance.
