Apart from the misspelling as "Shrugboro", the "Gates of Jerusalem" in the background seems to have
been a fanciful name for the triumphal arch below. (John Morris pic).
Ex-LMS locomotive 10001 was one of the first two mainline diesels built in Britain in 1947, and usually run as a pair with stablemate 10000 - they had a Co-Co axle arrangement, and were fitted with an English Electric 16SVT Mark 1 prime mover rated at 1,600 hp or 1,200 kW. Entrusting a premier name train to what were in essence experimental locos strikes one as being a little brave. A pic of it near the end of its days is on
