new book on early NZ tourism art
This is a lavishly produced all-colour book containing over 400 pages which presents a wide range of posters and advertising illustrations from bygone years - most pre-1960 and quite a few pre-WW2 - designed to entice people to visit New Zealand, and locals to travel to popular vacation spots within their own country. The government had a major role in this with the tourism office, and transport organisations also wanted to entice people to travel with them. Most of the pictures are artworks of people enjoying themselves at the holiday destinations or the scenery, but there are some which also feature our specialty of the means of transport.
Illustrations are generally one to a page on the 230 x 300 mm format, but some pages have a multiple grouping of pictures in small format, not really big enough to do them justice, but there are limits to how expensive a cover price for a book you can have these days and expect to sell many. There are also accompanying essays. Hardcovered, available for $79 in our shop.
