new book on Cornish Railways

The title may suggest this is a general history, but it is actually an all-colour pictorial exploration of what diesel hauled/powered trains on the Cornish system have looked like in the last four decades; there is only one photo of a steam hauled excursion train.  From TV documentaries, dramas and the like, Cornwall's coastlines are what most people will associate with England's most southwestern county, but they don't feature in here, other than a few photos taken at St Ives and Penzance, basically because the lines don't run alongside the coasts.  However, Cornwall is one of England's most picturesque counties which is hardly flat, and, as in the cover scene showing the 220-metre/720-ft Angarrack Viaduct, there are plenty of appealing landscapes featured in this book's 160 glossy pages from Ian Allan (the paper weight is a bit less than we use).

There is a wide variety of locomotives with a variety of passenger train types (some goods trains, too) and in a wide variety of settings, so for modellers or those simply into nice railway photography, it will make a good addition to the bookshelf.  A4 landscape format, hardcover with jacket.
