Nijmegen trams, Netherlands
Nijmegen had electric trams from 1911 to 1955.
Line 1: Franck Street - Imperial Karelplein, inaugurated on 4 June 1911, a week later extended to St. Anne and in 1919 to Hengstdal.
Line 2: Hunerpark - Beek, in use on 1 January 1912, a year later extended to Berg en Dal.
Line 3: Nijmegen - Korenbeurs - Voorhees, inaugurated on 17 June 1922.
In 1943 services were extended with lines numbered 4 and 5 (respectively added on line 1 and 3).
In 1952, line 1 was replaced by a trolleybus line. Lines 2 and 3 were closed in 1955. The last trams in Nijmegen ceased on 21 November 1955, services replaced by buses. The famous viaduct on the Berg en Dal line (see earlier post) remained until 1969, when it was demolished due to dilapidation.
