ox-power railway, New Guinea

During the period of German colonial control to 1914 in New Guinea, numerous plantation railways were constructed in 600 mm gauge using oxen pulling bogie wagons.  The plantations were originally mostly of tobacco until about 1901 when the fields were planted with coconuts, cautchouc, guttapercha and ficus rubber.  This card was issued by a French company selling a meat extract.
