Standards at Takapu Road, Tawa, Wellington

Two of the Standard railcars heading towards Wellington from New Plymouth are seen passing through the Takapu Road suburban station circa 1971. The little wood shelters on each side were established on each side after the deviation through here was opened in 1937 - the one visible has since been replaced with a concrete one but the other is still there.  It looks like a metal box containing the day's Evening Post is in the shelter.  From memory these were honesty boxes, hard to imagine that today.
