the marvels of the jet plane

Although it comes from the French word jeter,  'to throw', evidently the Académie Francaise wanted a different rendition of its English usage for engines (the Académie Francaise has nothing on the Maori Language Commission though!), so we have avion à réaction for jet plane and turbo réacteur for jet engine.

A 1970s French book for children.
