Esso and electric power, 1958

Esso was (and still is a brand name of ExxonMobil) an oil company - the name comes from SO, the initials of Standard Oil - so the association with electric power isn't clear, unless this means to show an electric power plant that was oil fueled.

Although the artist has given this locomotive a road number of 5044, it looks to be based on BB9004, built in 1954 as an experimental locomotive that reached the then world speed record of 331 km/h in 1955 between Lamothe and Morcenx south of Bordeaux and now preserved in the SNCF museum in Mulhouse.
