The original Leicester station from 1840 was completely rebuilt by the Midland Railway between 1892 and 1894 to a design by architect Charles Trubshaw. Later the Midland Railway became a part of LMS.
The frontage on London Road today remains as a well-preserved late Victorian building, but the interior of the booking hall and the structures on the platforms were reconstructed by British Rail in the 1970s. Of note about the station is that its clock is the only hand-wound station clock in the UK.
