the 'Crusader' berthing at Queen's Wharf, Auckland, 1890s

The Crusader was considered one of the fastest of the Shaw Savill ships. She was built by Connell of Glasgow and launched in March 1865. Measurements: 1,058 tons net, 210.7 ft (64.2 metres) length, 35.1 ft (10.7 metres) breadth, 21.4ft (6.5 metres) depth.

In 1878 she made a passage lasting 65 days from London to Port Chalmers. She was eventually sold to the Norwegians.

This is one of several superb paintings by Auckland based maritime artist and lecturer Roger Morris (originally of Maidenhead, England), a former seaman.  Website
