Slovakia 363 class electrics


These locomotives began life in the combined Czechoslovak CSD before being reallocated between the split CD (Czech Republic) and the ZSR (Slovakia) in 1993. They were designed for both 3000 Volts DC and 25 kV AC and were the world's first multi-system locomotives with power thyristor pulse regulation which has minimal losses compared to older resistive regulation with very high losses. This gives the locomotives characteristic sounds on three frequencies (the first is 33.3 Hz; the second is 100 Hz and the third is 300 Hz) when accelerating - video below
