Phantom Canyon on the F & CC Railroad, Colorado

The Florence and Cripple Creek Railroad (F&CC) was a 3 ft (915 mm) gauge railway running northward from junctions with the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad at the mill towns of Florence and later moved to CaƱon City, Colorado, on the banks of the Arkansas River, up steep and narrow Phantom Canyon along the Eightmile Creek to the Cripple Creek Mining District, west of Pikes Peak.  It began in 1893 and lasted about 10 years.

Since 1996, Phantom Canyon has been designated an Area of Critical Environmental Concern by the Bureau of Land Management.
