A photo reportedly taken at Oamaru in 1905 with the depot's locomotive staff. The loco looks like a U class 4-6-0 of which 7 were built in Addington workshops, Christchurch, between 1894 and 1899. They were scrapped from the 1930s, the last in the 1950s.
