the former electric railway Intra-Premeno, Italy


This was a 13.3 km long metre gauge railway, electrified with 1350 Volts DC, located in Piedmont, connecting Intra on Lake Maggiore, Arizzano, Bee and finally Premeno at an altitude of 630 metres with many intermediate stops.  Gradients were up to 7.3% and curve radiuses were as tight as 50 metres.  

The electric railcar shown had a 235 kW output motor and was fitted with recuperative braking.

The railway lasted from 1926 to 1959.
