Cherrelyn horse tram, Denver, Colorado

Life was simple then. Apparently on the Cherrelyn street car, the horses were needed for pulling the cars up a gradient but not for going back down it, so they got a ride.

The electric trolley car was extended from Denver into Littleton in 1907. For a time, the Littleton route included the Cherrelyn street car on south Broadway, where a horse continued to assisted the electric motors going up the grade, then climbed aboard and rode on the car during the descent. The streetcar line was abandoned in 1926 and replaced with cheaper to run and more flexible buses.
