Broken Hill Smelters' 0-6-0 shunter


A postcard issued by the ARHS South Australian division. According to the back, this 3'6" (1067 mm) gauge works loco was built in 1919 by Andrew Barclay & Company of Kilmarnock, Scotland, one of three, which were named Peronne, Polygon and Passchendaele.  It was 21' (6.4 metres) long, weighed 18.5 tonnes, had two 10 x 18" (254 x 457 mm) cylinders, a boiler pressure of 160 psi and a tractive effort of 6800 lbf (30.25 kN).  It was withdrawn in 1964 and given to the Mile End Museum near Adelaide in 1966.
