We mentioned the Silver Star train in connection with the post on the Northerner; this pic shows a rake of the carriages in the Wellington yard in 1974, with a then ubiquitous English Electric multiple unit in the foreground. The train was introduced with fanfare in 1971 but didn't survive the decade - for the story see our books.
