Last Thursday, 29 September was a good day for naval ship watchers in Wellington when 11 of the country's naval vessels came into the harbour on a perfect day; here are three of the photos taken by one of our directors.
F111, Te Mana, commissioned in 1999 is one of ten Anzac class frigates and one of two serving in the Royal New Zealand Navy, here berthed at the Overseas Passenger Terminal (soon to be redeveloped as the Clyde Quay Wharf Apartments, see earlier post). The name Te Mana approximately translates as 'status' or 'authority'.
L421 Canterbury, here berthed at Queens Wharf, is a multi-role vessel (MRV) built at Merwede shipyards in the Netherlands and commissioned in June 2007. She is the second ship of the Royal New Zealand Navy to carry the name, the first ship having been a Leander class frigate. She is also New Zealand's first ever strategic sealift ship.
