old days of Christchurch trams

In the spirit of Friday's post on new light rail proposals in the rebuilding of the city, here are some of the photos of trams on the Christchurch Library website.
Cathedral Square 1931. The United Service Hotel was a posh establishment at the time, it was demolished in the 1990s.
The same location a a year or two later
Likewise Cathedral Square, the opening of the electric line to Papanui, 2 June 1905, evidently at night.
Seaview Road, New Brighton, 1920 (one of the worst affected suburbs in the recent earthquakes)
Snowfall difficulties at the corner of Colombo and Armagh, 1918(?)
Descending the Cashmere Hills, 1919.
