maritime activity at Makassar, 1919

The ship MS Rindjani and various other small vessels off the important port of Makassar in 1919.  At the time this region was still known as the Dutch Indies; the Dutch had been there since the early 17th century.  The national uprising of 1950 saw the creation of present day Indonesia.
