a DJ with a Grassgrub at Springfield Station

A Mitsubishi built Bo-Bo-Bo type diesel locomotive from 1969, one of the 64 member class denoted DJ and used in the South Island, is seen with a Grassgrub, i.e. a former Fiat railcar stripped of its motors and control equipment and painted lime green, at Springfield in 1980. At the time Springfield was still one of NZR's celebrated refreshment stop stations. This era ended with the onboard catering of the TranzAlpine Express in 1987, but after about 15 years of non-use, a café and visitor centre was begun using the station, which operates today(?).
