On 8 May 1945 World War 2 in Europe ended with the surrender of the Germans to the Allies. To mark the 66th anniversary, here is a painting by Shayne Stoakes, "A Moment in Time" a sight that occurred at stations across the USA, as well as in Canada, New Zealand and Australia during the war: a soldier embrasses the woman he loves before he departs on a train being the first stage of his journey to battlefields in which he may be wounded or killed. This depicts the Scranton, Pennsylvania depot, as the Lackawanna passenger train known as the "Phoebe Snow" prepares to depart for Chicago.
