Magdeburg a century ago

Breiteweg literally translates as Broadway and this view taken about 100 years ago in the German city of Magdebeburg shows what was one of the important thoroughfares at the time.  A couple of electric trams with trailers are next to a new fangled horseless carriage; the rest of the traffic is horse-drawn.

The city was destroyed in WW2 and rebuilt in brutalist style in the 1950s; all these buildings have gone, although tram lines are still there.
