A procession of Australian Army Service Corps, 44 Company in Devonport, Tasmania on 30 May 1953. The unit was allotted the role of motor ambulance transport, successor to the AASC motor ambulance convoys of WW2, and responsible for evacuating casualties from field medical units to hospitals in the rear. The vehicles were carryover Ford 4x4 ambulances, whose ride did little for patient comfort during evacuation, but were the best available within the technology of cross-country trucks at the time.
One notes the Mark III Humber Super Snipe, the first car parked: this was one of the more upmarket cars of the time and may be transporting the officers. From a book on this
