1924 Audi

As most people know, Audi has been a subsidiary of Volkswagen since 1966 and is based in Ingolstadt in the West.  However, it was originally based in Zwickau in the East where it was established in 1909 by August Horch. His surname means hear or hark in German—when translated into Latin becomes Audi, which for trademark reasons became the marque name instead of Horch the following year. The post-WW2 division of Germany and Soviet expropriations forced the move west, although the East Germans recreated the Zwickau factory and began building their own vehicles there, including the IFA and the Trabbi.  The "i.S." in the old artwork means in Sachsen (Saxony).
