The California Zephyr on Altamont Pass, California, a 1,000 ft high pass east of San Francisco; photos taken in early 1970 by Drew Jacksich.  This was a bit over a year before the advent of Amtrak and 13 years before the Western Pacific was absorbed into the Union Pacific.
