train time at Cora Lynn

An Arthur's Pass bound passenger train headed by mountain-type steam loco Ja 1243 crosses a Fiat railcar bound for Christchurch in 1958. The small station building with a man waiting is in the background.

This photo was used in the book The Midland Line: New Zealand's trans-alpine railway, which is now out of print, but a new edition of the book On the Trans-Alpine Trail which has lots of great colour photos of trains in the mountains, is now available.
