Lotto - a tax on stupidity

That is the opinion of TVNZ newsreader Peter Williams and it's hard to disagree.  Last weekend 2.5 million tickets were sold for the jackpot of $35 million, but the chances of winning it were 1 in ...

Obviously a handful of people get a life-changing amount of money from the exercise ... and the rest of the 2.5 million people lose their money.  Unfortunately Lotto and the like are most popular in the poorest areas.

Still the question arises - if you won that much what would you do with it?  In our case we would set up a fund to give history research grants to everyone who is turned down by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage.
