Wellington harbour scene, 1950s

A photo from the 1950s in the book New Zealand Maritime Images: the Golden Years by Emmanuel Makarios, this shows the site of where in the early 1960s the Wellington-Picton Ferry terminal was built, and where it still is.

Road vehicles visible, from the left: a Leyland 2.5 ton truck, a Commer bus by New Zealand Motor Bodies about 1947, in front of that maybe a 1955-1960 Ford Prefect, ?, a Singer SM sedan, a 1934 Caterpilar grader, a Fordson Van, an Aveling Barford Road Roller, in the car park; on Sar Street (foreground) an Austin A40, an Austin Van,and the rear of a Hillman Minx Station Wagon.

The Anchor Company RMS Ngaio is in the Floating Dry Dock although the colour doesn't seem right. More info is in the book Strait Crossing: the ferries of Cook Strait through time by Victor Young.
