The opening of the new station together with the electrification from Paraparaumu occurred last Saturday, so here is a photo of how the station looked in 1947, with the overnight express to Auckland crossing a passenger train from Wanganui. This J.W. Sutherland photo was in the book New Zealand Railway Memories which is now out of print, but the book Wellington Transport Memories - which has a photo taken in the same location in 1910 - is still available.
