tracks at Waidhofen an der Ybbs

The second scene, from last June just beyond the Waidhofen an der Ybbs station, shows an electric railcar  travelling in the direction of Kleinreifling on standard gauge track, while in the foreground is a 760 mm (2'6") gauge track which begins here and travels east along the Ybbs valley--the Ybbstalbahn. This is one of the ÖBB or Austrian Federal Railways' last narrow gauge lines.

The top scene shows the weekly Ybbstalbahn freight train crossing the viaduct over the Waidhofen town centre, steam hauled on this occasion by locomotive Yv2, a 0-6-4T type built by Krauss in 1896. More information on the ÖBB line to Lunz am See and and the museum line from there to Gaming is on this website.

Update
The new edition of Eisenbahnatlas Österreich shows the ÖBB line between Gstad and Lunz am See as closed.
