Pan Am Boeing 707, 1958

A Boeing 707-120, N710PA, seen at Keflavik airport, Iceland, in 1958. This was one of the refueling stops for trans-Atlantic flights, necessary because of this aircraft type's restricted capacity. At this point the aircraft was very new.

  1. Did the first trans-Atlantic flights from Idlewild to Europe require this stop-over? What were the lengths of the runways at Idlewild that jets were weight restricted? Or is this a flight from California?
