Messerschmitt 109 painting

Messerschmitt 109's of JG-5 scramble from their base at Petsamo, Finland, during an attack by Russian aircraft in WW2. Russians were based at Murmansk, only 40 miles (64 km) away.

This is one of Robert Bailey's aerial combat paintings of WW2 on this webpage

The ME 109 was Germany's most famous aircraft, and pilots who flew it shot down more enemy aircraft than in any other fighter on both sides in the war.
