Austin 7 at the Rimutaka Summit

We've mentioned dinky British cars and the Rimutaka Incline in the last couple of weeks, so here is a painting of a 1920s Austin 7 at the summit of the Rimutaka road, which at 1,820 feet (555 metres) is rather higher than the summit station of the old Rimutaka Incline railway line (348 metres). At the time that the painting is set, 1940s, the road, like most others, was unsealed and lightly trafficked.

This is another work by talented Otaki-based artist Wallace Tricket who is happy to do paintings on commission.
