famous metro fonts - London and Paris

We mentioned books for typographers/designers a few weeks ago, so for those interested in famous transport fonts, here are two of the best known.

The London Underground used a font designed by Edward Johnson in 1915, and it still does although the current typeface is slightly different.

The art nouveau style fonts by Hector Guimard used in some Paris Metro entrances and signs indicating an entrance, such as Abesses (pictured) are also famous. Paris has the most metro fonts (three, or even eight when the six varieties of Guimard's art nouveau fonts are counted).

We will post more examples from time to time.
