One of the 10 class EP-3 electric locomotives delivered by General Electric to the New Haven Railroad in 1931. They had a 2-C-C-2 axle arrangement, were 77 ft (23.5 metres) long with a 66 ft (20.1 metres) wheelbase, and each powered axle used a twin-arm 12-pole motor producing a total 2740 hp (continuous rating) and 3440 hp (one hour rating). They were intended for 70 mph passenger trains (EP = electric passenger) and could operate in both AC and DC third rail territory. They were considered very successful, evidenced by the order for six more similar but slightly improved EP-4 class in 1938.

These awesome motors were condemned way before their time by inept management, likely being paid off by EMD.
