transport in London in 2026 imagination from 1926

This illustration imagined the future of London, showing the Underground which takes you to Scotland (Glasgow in 2 hours 45 minutes). The sky is filled with a variety of flying vehicles including blimps. There are 'London Bridge Air depot' 'Air Taxi', 'Gravity gas Co. Ltd' and 'Mars stores' skyscrapers. The city is depicted at sunset.

A poster in the London Transport Museum.

1970s Fiat 308 bus

The Fiat 308 was built between 1971 and 1978 and equipped with the 8200.12 6-cylinder in-line engine of 9,819 cc delivering 194 hp. The gearbox was mechanical with 4 or 5 speeds. The peculiarity of this model was the presence of the engine in the center of the frame, in the so-called "sole" configuration. Passenger seating places totalled 43.

Perth, Australia, ADK class diesel multiple unit

Ten two-car stainless steel sets were built over 1967-1968 manufactured for the Western Australian Government Railways consisting of an ADK power car manufactured by Commonwealth Engineering, in Granville NSW and an ADB trailer built by the WAGR's Midland Railway Workshops

Following the electrification of the Perth rail network, they were rendered surplus and in 1992, all except ADK 689 were sold, along with the newer ADL/ADC class, to New Zealand Rail to replace 56-ft locomotive hauled cars on Auckland suburban trains.

The axle arrangement for the 2-car sets was (1A)(A1)+2′2′, power output for the ADK was 2 x 155 kW (208 hp) = 210 kW (416 hp).

sailing ship 'Etoile du Roy' (1997)

Length overall 152 ft, GRT = 312

"Étoile du Roy ('King's Star'), formerly Grand Turk, is a three-masted sixth-rate frigate, designed to represent a generic warship during the Age of Sail, with her design greatly inspired by HMS Blandford. The ship was built in Marmaris, Turkey, in 1996 to provide a replica of a frigate for the production of the ITV series adapted from the novels about Royal Navy officer Horatio Hornblower by C. S. Forester. Nowadays the tall ship is used mainly in sailing events, for corporate or private charter, and for receptions in her spacious saloon or on her deck. In 2010 the French company Étoile Marine Croisières, based at Saint-Malo, Brittany, purchased the ship and renamed her Étoile du Roy."

1934 Miesse diesel bus, Belgium

from Wikipedia: "Jules Miesse set up a mechanical workshop in 1894, and built his first cars in 1896. In 1902 Thomas Turner & Company acquired a licence to build the cars in the United Kingdom - these Turner-Miesse cars were built until 1906. In 1927 the production of cars was discontinued, in favour of trucks and buses. Some were equipped with Diesel engines from German builder Junkers.

"In 1929, Miesse acquired the Bollinckx works, who had produced since 1890 gas and steam engines, and compressors and tools for compressed air; this allowed increasing truck production to 100 per annum. The merged company was called Automobiles Miesse et Usines Bollinckx Société Anonyme; it was later renamed to Auto-Miesse.

"After 1945, Miesse assembled Nash cars for the European market. Miesse continued to exist till 1974."

1969 Pontiac Farago CF 428

"This very special car was brought about as a result of a special request by John DeLorean while he was head of the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors. He asked Farago to come up with an exciting car that he could use to tour the world's auto shows and enhance the company's image. Having just left Ghia and setting up shop with Sergio Coggiola, this was the first project for the firm 'Carrozziere Coggiola,' which had opened in Turin in 1966. They would later go on to produce prototypes for many companies, including SAAB, Lancia and Volvo." (Wheels and Wings Forever FB).

the 'Santa Fe Chief' stops in Winslow, Arizona, circa 1960

The train ran between L.A. and Chicago and operated from 1926 to 1968 and along with the Super Chief which began running on the same route in 1937, was one of America's most iconic trains in that era. Winslow is the next station east of Flagstaff.

Flagstaff station, Arizona

A BNSF stack train heads west through the station which also houses a visitor center.

Atchison Topeka &Santa Fe built the depot in 1925 and it opened on January 5, 1926. The station's elevation is 6,902 feet (2,104 meters) above sea level. Adjacent is the 1886 solid-red sandstone freight depot originally built by the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. Both the former Santa Fe Depot and the Atlantic and Pacific Depot that it replaced are contributing properties to the Railroad Addition Historic District.
