Egypt: fighting Islamic terrorism ideologically as well as militarily

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has denounced the carnage in Nice on Thursday night.

“Such terrorist acts will not undermine the resolve of peace-loving nations and peoples, but will only increase their determination to fight and eradicate terrorism,” he said, reiterating calls for increased international efforts to combat extremist violence.

Egypt’s highest Muslim religious authority on Friday also strongly condemned the attack in Nice. The grand mufti of Egypt, Shawqi Allam, described the killings in Nice as a “despicable attack” and said that Islamic teachings “never called for bloodshed or the killing of innocents regardless of their beliefs and faith.”

“The only way for us is to cooperate with each other on all levels,” he said “to confront this extremist thought that now threatens the entire world and is no longer limited to a specific region.”

Egypt has been offering governments in various countries resident Muslim scholars who reject violence to preach in mosques in place of the hate preachers who promote it. The offer made to NZ last year made the news a few months ago.

We wish them success.
