Sweden - State Railways B class 4-6-0

Number 1149, seen with an excursion train in the woods. This class, inspired by the Prussian State Railways Class P8 from 1906, was a ten-wheeler general purpose locomotive. The class proved excellent for all kinds of duties and was used for hauling freight as well as heavy passenger trains. A total of 96 were built between 1909 and 1919. The Class B was also used by a number of private railways, among others the BJ, SDJ, SWB and SNJ. As late as 1944 SWB (Stockholm-Västerås-Bergslagens Järnvägar) took delivery of 3 Class B engines, which were later taken over by the SJ. The total number built was thus 99 units.
