General Electric U15 locomotives, Sudan


"They look like DXs," you might say, and there was a family likeness between the GE "U-Boats". The standard U15C model as made for South African railways was a Co-Co type, but in 1975 Sudan Railways asked for a A1A-A1A variant. GE had been on record as being against this wheel arrangement, so it is likely  Sudan Railways wanted them for lighter axle load uses on less substantial track than used in South Africa.
